ADC CHICAGO CONDEMNS ISRAEL AIR STRIKES AGAINST GAZA
(Chicago, IL Sat. Dec. 27, 2008) -- The Chicago Chapter of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) unequivocally and in the strongest terms condemns and denounces the Israeli air strikes against the residents of Gaza. We call upon President George W. Bush and President-Elect Barrack Obama to pressure Israel to end its siege and bombardment of Gaza and to work toward a cease fire agreement.
Said Fadi Zanayed, President of ADC Chicago, We woke up today to the leading news story of the Israeli air strikes against the residents to Gaza and learned that 195 people have been killed, mostly children. Like most Americans, I am sickened by a never ending vicious cycle of violence and death which continues unabated as Israeli aggression and atrocities only add fire to an already desperate state of affairs. President Bush needs to intercede here and now and end his presidency on a positive note by bringing an immediate cease fire to the fighting between Israel and Hamas. President-Elect Obama needs to signal to Israel that the status quo of strike and counter-strike mentality will no longer be toleratedthat the day for accountability and peace has come.
ADC Chicago Vice-President and National Board Member, Shafic M. Budron further stated, The war crimes being committed by Israeli leaders need to be investigated and those responsible need to be brought to justice. Israel s siege to Gaza has left the Palestinian population starving without milk for infants and without medicine for the sick. This latest round of disproportionate Israeli response to the retaliation against its inhumane blockade of Gaza only begets more violence and a continuation of bloodshed and more suffering for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Mr. Zanayed continued by saying, The silence of US leaders on this Israeli massacre is in effect acquiescencewe, as Americans, have become a party in these war crimes. We need to push for peace now more than ever before. We need to end the stance of silence and complicity and purse the option of accountability and sustained peace. The White House statement upon Israel to minimize civilian casualties only perpetuates a continuation of war rather than calling for peace.
